AVG Feedback Update

FixOur tech team at AVG takes all your feedback seriously and over the last week we’ve been working hard to listen to your issues and deliver the changes and bug fixes that you’ve brought to our attention on the AVG Free Forum.

Here’s a list of this week’s fixes:

Rogue Security Software AVG Antivirus 2011

As mentioned on our forum and blog, a rogue piece of malware misleadingly named "AVG Antivirus 2011” has been circulating the web.  We’ve developed the ability to combat this threat and running a full Whole Computer Scan should keep you in the clear. For further information about what to do if you feel you’ve been a victim of this scam visit this solutions page.

Anti-Rootkit scan found inline hook on NTDLL.DLL

We’ve worked to solve a bug with our rootkit tool where harmless rootkits would show up in the scan results. Clicking to update your AVG software this should fix this issue.

Install/Reinstall/Uninstall issues

There have also been reports of users having problems when they install/reinstall or uninstall AVG products. Any of these problems should be successfully resolved by following the AVG Uninstall/ Re-install guidelines for whichever version you are running. These instructions can be found here. Should this not resolve the issue, please send us your AVG installation log files for analysis.

VDB check failed reported by Antivirus and Antispyware components

Some users have reported an error message while running a check on the Virus Database. We’ve isolated the problem which in most cases is a single bit error caused by malfunctioning hardware. We recommend running memtest and checkdisk to identify the possibly failing hardware component.

Lastly, we still need your help to keep improving:

A bug has been reported where the booting stops just after a certain system file is read.

According to your feedback, once a computer loaded system32\drivers\AVGIDSEH.SYS the boot becomes frozen. To help us look into this issue, it would be a great help if you could send us log files for investigation. Please take a look at these posts to learn how to send us the information we need.

Sending us your msinfo output

Sending us your Operating system event logs.

Lastly we’d need your AVG logs and configuration files found here:

C:\ProgramData\AVG10\scanlogs\
