Fences is a one-of-a-kind program, allowing you to draw labeled shaded areas on your desktop, which become movable resizable containers for your desktop icons. These groups can help bring organization and consistency to your computer's desktop, solving the "constant mess" problem that has plagued the desktop since its inception.
To help solve another weak point of the desktop - the mere appearance of clutter - Fences offers a novel quick-hide feature. Double click your desktop, and all your icons will fade out. Double click again, and they'll return.
What do I need to run Fences?
Fences runs on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. On Vista, both 32bit and 64bit versions are supported.
I'm a beginner. Is this tool for me?
Yes. Fences is intuitive to use, has a simple user-interface, and is designed to lead you through every step if you want it to. Put it on mom pop's computer without fear.
I'm an advanced user. Is this tool for me?
In a big way. Fences is low load, streamlined and unobtrusive. Advanced users will never need to open the config dialog to manage their Fences, and will find that they never notice Fences except for the fact that their desktop is finally usable. Advanced users will love the fact that Fences can maintain different icon layouts on a per-screen-resolution basis.
This is really neat, but I wanted super-3d-futuristic graphics and stuff
Fences was created with maximum compatibility and usefulness in mind. Instead of just making your desktop "totally-cool!"...in a totally-non-practical way, Fences skips the fluff and focuses on doing one thing right: being useful. That said, its slick presentation and smooth animations that it adds make it look great while it does that, too.
