I found that after using Windows for a long time in one session it would not shut down properly and hung the machine, even after applying Microsoft's 'fix' for this problem. I also found that if I restarted instead of shutting down it ever hung the machine, allowing me then to shut down properly when it came back up, avoiding having to run a ScanDisk. This utility automates the process of restarting Windows then shutting down. It is particularly useful for machines that turn themselves.
