HashPuff is a file comparison utility. It can be used to compare one file or directories full of files. The comparison information can be exported as an file set ( manifest ) and reloaded for later file set validation. HashPuff can also produce file set comparison reports. These reports can be exported into a coma separated file list which can then be loaded into other utilities such as MS Excel for further analisys.
HashPuff works by generating what is called a file hash. A file hash is a fancy math calculation which gives you some big number. It turns out that differences in the data contain within in the file will make that fancy math calculation produce uniex file hashes for each file. This means that even if you change the name of a file the data it contains is still the same and the file hash will not be effected. I don't care how it works I just want to use it. Sounds good lets get started, do a google search if you want to know more about file hashes.
