22 Million Downloads: Proof the Dictionary.com Apps Are Quite Popular
What do you do when you hear a word and you don’t understand what it means? One easy way to find out what that word means would be to launch your browser and look it up on Dictionary.com, the site that allows you to look up accurate and extensive definitions and word meanings. From your desktop computer you can easily access the site.

You can do the same while you are on the go, by using the Dictionary.com for iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry apps, which, as Dictionary.com announced, are the world's most downloaded dictionary apps across the aforementioned platforms. As of December 14, the current year, the number of total downloads for Dictionary.com mobile apps has exceeded the 22 million mark.

"As one of the few companies to reach the 20 million download mark, we've learned that the mobile environment is quickly becoming an extension of the individual," said Dictionary.com President Shravan Goli. "Your vocabulary, and the way you employ it, is one aspect that defines and distinguishes you. Our new apps deliver that personalization."

Earlier today we were reporting on the fact that Dictionary.com announced an update that brings interesting functionality to the Dictionary.com app – voice-to-text definitions. When you hear a word and want to know what it means, you don’t have to type it into the app to get a definition; you can simply speak it to the app. The app will recognize the word and provide you with a definition.

“How many times have you heard a word in conversation, during a lecture, or on TV that you had no idea how to spell, and therefore couldn't look up?” said Shravan Goli. “Now just speak the word, and the definition appears on your Dictionary.com app.”

Dictionary.com said it submitted the updated iPhone and Android apps to their respective app stores. A quick visit to the App Store shows the app has not been updated yet.
