Acquisition Goes Through, McAfee Now Belongs to Intel
David De Walt, President of McAfee, company that specializes in providing security software solutions for home and business users, has announced that the company he leads has been acquired by Intel. This is not exactly news. McAfee and Intel announced back in August that they entered a definitive acquisition agreement. What is news is the fact that the acquisition went through, that it cleared reviews by the US Federal Trade Commission, the European Commission, other regulatory bodies, and the boards of directors and stockholders.

What’s changed now that McAfee is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intel? It means that McAfee reports into Intel's Software and Services Group which is lead by Intel Senior VP and General Manager, Renée James. Basically De Walt will answer directly to James.

Speaking of Renée James, here’s what she had to say about the acquisition of McAfee:
"In the past, energy-efficient performance and Internet connectivity have defined computing requirements. Intel has added security as a third pillar of what people demand from their experiences with personal computers and other connected devices. Security challenges put the future potential of computing at risk. The acquisition of McAfee adds not only world-leading security products and technologies to Intel's computing portfolio, but also brings incredibly talented people focused on delivering products and services that help make connecting to the mobile Internet safer and more secure."

What does the acquisition mean for regular McAfee users? How does it impact them? The truth of the matter is that the acquisition doesn’t impact regular users at all. As Dave DeWalt explained, it’s business as usual at McAfee. The scurity company will continue to develop and sell security products just like it always has.

“McAfee maintains its own products, customers, and sales force and continues to develop, market, and sell products under the McAfee brand for multiple platforms and architectures,” said De Walt. “McAfee will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intel, becoming part of Intel’s Software and Services Group. We now add Intel’s global reach, world-renowned labs and researchers, and technology leadership to the world-class McAfee portfolio of security products, solutions, and services.”

The acquisition of McAfee is the largest in Intel’s history. Intel paid some $7.7 billion to acquire the security company.
