Adobe Releases Update for Reader and Acrobat, Just As Promised
Last week Adobe released an update that fixed a critical vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.42.34 and earlier. The vulnerability, as Adobe explained, “could subvert the domain sandbox and make unauthorized cross-domain requests.” At the time Adobe announced it is aware of critical security vulnerabilities in Adobe Reader 9.3 for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX, Adobe Acrobat 9.3 for Windows and Macintosh, and Adobe Reader 8.2 and Acrobat 8.2 for Windows and Macintosh.

The company said at the time that it would address these critical security vulnerabilities by releasing and update for the affected software on the 16th of February. And that is precisely what happened. Yesterday, the 16th of February, Adobe Reader 9.3.1 and Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 as well as Adobe Reader 8.2.1 and Adobe Acrobat 8.2.1 were released by the company that specializes in creating multimedia and creativity software products.

Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat were plagued by 2 critical vulnerabilities. The first vulnerability is the same one that affected Flash Player – the one that could make unauthorized cross-domain requests by subverting the domain sandbox. The second vulnerability, if successfully exploited by a person with malicious intent, could crash the application and potentially allow the attacker to take control of the affected system.

“Adobe recommends users of Adobe Reader 9.3 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX update to Adobe Reader 9.3.1. (For Adobe Reader users on Windows and Macintosh who cannot update to Adobe Reader 9.3.1, Adobe has provided the Adobe Reader 8.2.1 update.) Adobe recommends users of Adobe Acrobat 9.3 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh update to Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1. Adobe recommends users of Acrobat 8.2 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh update to Acrobat 8.2.1,” said the Adobe in this security bulletin.

Users will be automatically prompted to update. If they don’t want to wait, they can manually check for updates by clicking Help -> Check For Updates Now.
