Android 2.2 Users Can Now Upload Photos to Flickr Directly
Flickr prides itself on being “almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.” That statement did not exactly hold water for mobile uploads. Android users who wanted to upload images to Flickr, could not do so from their Android-powered device. They could easily upload photos to Flickr, but they had to do so by email. The subject line was used as the photo’s title and the email body as the photo’s description.
You can now forget about uploading photos to Flickr from your Android-powered device’s camera using your unique email upload address. You can forget about it because Yahoo! announced there is an easier way to go about it: go to m.flickr.com from your mobile device, and upload photos directly to Flickr. If you are on Android 2.2, the Flickr homepage will detect it and will offer you a direct upload link.

“Flickr wants you to share photos from anywhere, including that cool new Android phone. Up till now you’ve only been able to upload-by-email which allows you to send photos to Flickr from your phone without having an app. Starting today, you can now browse to m.flickr.com and choose exactly the photo you want to upload, directly from your phone,” announced Sr. Product Manager Markus Spiering.
When you visit m.flickr.com from your mobile device, the Flickr site automatically detects that you are using Android 2.2. Once it does so it offers you an upload link on the homepage. Tap the link and you will be directed to the mobile upload page. On that page you will see the “Choose file for upload” option. Tap this option and you will access your photo gallery; select the photo you want, and upload it to Flick by tapping “Upload”.
“Android 2.2 is the first mobile OS that supports the file-type for the input-tag: <input type=”file” name=”photo”>, allowing the browser to pick a photo from the library and upload it directly to Flickr,” explained Spiering.
