Angry Birds: EA Acquisition, 2 Million Android Downloads
Here are two pieces of news related to the Rovio-developed puzzle game Angry Birds. Here’s the first one: word on the web is that Electronic Arts, the international developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games, aims to acquire Chillingo, the publisher of the hugely popular Angry Birds game. It is rumored that EA will pay around $20 million in cash to acquire Chillingo; Rovio Mobile, the developer of the Angry Birds game, is not included in the acquisition.

"By acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world's leading wireless entertainment publisher," EA spokeswoman Holly Rockwood said in a statement for Reuters.

Here’s the second Angry Bird-related piece of news: the Android version of the game has been downloaded more than 2 million times. On the 15th of October, Rovio announced that Angry Birds for Android graduated out of Beta and the final version was released to the public. Anyone with an Android 1.6 or later powered device could download and enjoy the game free of charge since it is ad-supported. A lot of Android users did just that – 4 days later Rovio announced that the Android version of the Android game had been downloaded more than 2 million times.

“Angry Birds has been downloaded over two million times from GetJar and the Android Market. We thank all of our fans for making Angry Birds one of the most popular apps on Android! We are still working on many issues regarding the game, and we are doing our best to add support for more devices,” announced Rovio in a blog post.

As mentioned above, Angry Birds for Android is ad-supported. Rovio said that in the future it will roll out an update and will allow users to purchase the full version and thus get rid of the ads.
