AVG and Netlog Partner to Educate, Offer Users Enhanced Security
AVG Technologies, company that specializes in providing antivirus and internet security protection to home and business users, has announced that it partnered up with Netlog, a popular European social networking site that has more than 72 million users. As part of this partnership AVG Technologies and Netlog will launch a co-branded Security Center that will:

- Provide detailed information about various internet security-related topics.
- Teach users about the dangers of malware and how to protect themselves from malware.
- Teach the users about cybercriminals and spyware.
- Allow users to download free and paid AVG products at a discounted price while receiving bonus Netlog credits at en.netlog.com/go/downloads/.
- Let the users apply exclusive AVG monster ‘brand skins’ to their own page at netlog.com/internetsecurity/.

As mentioned above, Netlog has more than 72 million users. The co-branded Security Center will be released to some 24 million Netlog users at first, users from Belgium, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Romania and Turkey.

As part of the partnership AVG LinkScanner will automatically scan all links within Netlog. This means users will be warned about accessing potentially dangerous links. The same technology is found in AVG Anti-Virus Free 2011 and it scans Facebook and MySpace links. You can get AVG LinkScanner as a standalone application here.

“AVG is delighted to work with Netlog on this strategic initiative. Social media has become the heartbeat of our society and as such, it is particularly vulnerable to the criminal elements,” said Rocco Donnino, Senior Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances, AVG Technologies. “Netlog is taking incredible measures to create a safe and secure environment for their members, thus it’s imperative that Netlog users have the most up-to-date security software and information available so that they stay protected while surfing online.”

"A significant amount of Netlog users are aged 13 to 20. This age group tends to be relatively more vulnerable to online threats, which is why we attach a great deal of importance to online security. Other than guaranteeing the safest possible experience on our own site, we can now offer our users a way to protect themselves wherever they go on the web, thanks to our partnership with AVG," said Lorenz Bogaert, Co-founder and CEO of Netlog.
