Build 24: Multiprotocol IM Application Trillian Astra Also Gets Updated
A few moments ago we reported on the fact that Digsby Build 76 has been released to the public. This is Digsby’s first release for 2010, and as the development team behind the application explained, it is “jam packed with lots of goodness.” Just to get your taste buds going, Digsby Build 76 comes with new skins, Windows 7 support, the option to “dislike” Facebook posts and more.
Just like Digsby, multiprotocol instant messaging application Trillian Astra has been updated. Cerulean Studios, the company behind the application, has released Trillian Astra Build 24 to the public.

“Build 24 is now available to all customers. Since the gold release of Trillian 4.1 a few weeks back, we’ve been watching our crash reports and fixing them whenever we found them! If you’ve experienced the “stuck troubleshoot” button in your chat windows or have crashed when connecting to AIM or Google Talk, Build 24 should address these issues,” explained Cerulean Studios.
Cerulean Studios explained the Build 24 also fixes incompatibilities between Trillian Astra and Facebook Chat. The popular social networking site added XMPP support in Facebook Chat not too long ago. XMPP is the communications protocol that Google Talk, Jabber and many other services use. The catch is that Facebook does not run a “true” XMPP server and this lead to incompatibility issues.
“As they’re not running a “true” XMPP server, a few things they do were incompatible with our existing plugin and we’ve made the necessary workarounds in Build 24. If you’d like to try the new “Facebook through XMPP” support, simply add a new Jabber/XMPP account with a username of “your_facebook_username@chat.facebook.com” and your normal Facebook password. Note that you will need to have bound a Facebook Username to your account before this will work,” explained Cerulean Studios.
