Check out the Surfing Theme for Windows 7
Right now, at our super secret headquarters, it’s pretty cold. It’s as cold as in New York – but at least it’s not raining (my Yahoo! Weather widget told me it’s raining in NY at the time of writing this). If you, like me, are dreaming of an exotic location, awesome waves, and doing a bit of surfing, then you need to know that Redmond-based software giant has released a new Windows 7 theme called Surfing.

The theme is available for download on the Personalization Gallery, alongside some 100 other cool Windows 7 themes. As always, the theme is offered free of charge to Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate users.

The theme is a collection of 10 top quality images of waves. You can see come pretty awesome waves in this theme – to get a better picture of what I am talking about, check out the Surfing theme preview at the bottom. The nice thing about this theme is that it isn’t just a collection of great looking images. The Surfing theme comes with a cool sound-scheme – you can hear seagulls calling, you can hear the crashing waves, and you can hear drops of water. Get the theme and listen to the sounds for yourself.

There’s one other recently released Windows 7 theme that features a cool sound-scheme. I am of course talking about the Ireland theme. It comes with 17 top quality images that depict the beauty of Ireland and a sound-scheme based on traditional Celtic music. To come up with this sound-scheme Microsoft recruited Tom Creegan, member of the Irish trio Crumac who has been playing the uileann pipes for more than 30 years, and Jan Strolle, who has been playing the fiddle for some 20 years now.

Jan Strolle told Jennifer Shepherd, site manager for the Windows Personalization Gallery, the following while recording the sound-scheme for the Ireland theme:
“This is really a privilege, to get to hear him. He’s truly a master piper. You know, the uilleann pipes are very hard to learn – in fact they say it takes 21 years to become a master. For seven years you’re a beginner; for seven years you’re learning, and then it takes another seven years to perfect your art. My friends who play the pipes say ‘It’s not an instrument, it’s a lifestyle.”

Here’s the Surfing theme preview I mentioned above. Click the image to go to the Personalization Gallery and download the theme.
