DocVerse Becomes Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office
Remember how back in spring Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said that cloud computing is the way of the future and how Google concurred? Google agreed with Microsoft’s vision that cloud computing is the thing that will change the way people and businesses use technology when it announced the acquisition of DocVerse.
Founded by two former Microsoft employees, Shan Sinha and Alex DeNeui, DocVerse was a company that provided plug-in for the Microsoft Office productivity suite, a plug-in that let users collaborate in real-time with other people. Basically, DocVerse combined the functionality of Microsoft Office with the functionality of Google Docs. By sticking with the traditional Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint desktop applications, users could experience some of the benefits of web-based collaboration.

Over the past 9 months Google has worked hard on integrating DocVerse into its infrastructure. The other day Shan Sinha, now Group Product Manager with Google, reveled the fruits of that hard labor.
“Over the last 9 months, we’ve been hard at work moving the DocVerse product to Google’s infrastructure. We’ve also renamed it Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office. Today, we’re pleased to take the next step towards a public launch and make it available to early testers. With Cloud Connect, people can continue to use the familiar Office interface, while reaping many of the benefits of web-based collaboration that Google Docs users already enjoy.”
With Cloud Connect users can sync Office documents to the Google Cloud from within Office. Once in the cloud, documents can be easily shared with others, not to mention the fact that they can be accessed from any location, from desktops and mobile devices. Multiple users can simultaneously access and edit Office documents.
When Google Cloud Connect will be graduate out of the testing phase, it will be rolled out to everyone, free of charge . If you would like to be notified when Google Cloud Connect becomes available you can simply fill out this form.
