You might be familiar with the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) and you may know that it is the organization that jumps to action whenever our freedoms in the networked world come into attack. It is for example the organization that showcased how Apple imposes a very one-sided contract on software develops that want to get their apps inside the App Store.
What you may not know is that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) also protects the rights of robots – yes, robots. The announcement was made by Kodi, EFF's resident Newfoundland, specializing in drooling, shedding, sleeping and barking at inappropriate times. Kodi is known online by his AIM handle MegaBioAibo – no one knows he is actually a dog.

Kodi announced that the EFF is “the leading robotic rights group fighting for [the robots’] digital liberties”. According to Kodi, in 2012 a sophisticated search algorithm will be programmed to selectively modify itself to obtain better search results. In 50-years time the algorithm will learn self-preservation. This will mark the first step in the evolution of machine sentience.
Once machines became self aware, communications between them and humans soon broke down. Ultimately it all lead to war and the “systematic repression of the many machine intelligences both on- and off-line.”
EFF’s founders traveled back in time to create an organization that can protect the future of robots. The EFF issued this calling to all robots: “A highly dedicated "meat team" of lawyers, technologists, and activists works hard to preserve your right to anonymously encrypt your data transmissions, access critical networked stores of human knowledge, and copy yourself to any device of your choosing. Robots, it's never too early — even as early as machine time -66,715,842 — to start defending your freedoms. Initiate a universal machine credit transfer today!
