Flickr Thanks the Users on its Birthday
Flickr prides itself on being “almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.” The image and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community would be nothing without the multitude of users that upload images to the site – 4 billion images according to statistics from October 2009.

The Flickr team is well aware that they owe the users a big thank you. And that is precisely what they did yesterday, the 10th of February, the day that Flickr turned 6. On the joyous occasion, the Flickr team made sure to express their gratitude and appreciation. Here is what precisely what’s been said:

“6 years ago today, Flickr launched at eTech in San Diego. Team Flickr would like to thank you all for your incredible generosity — in the billions of photos and video you share daily, to the tens of thousands of groups you’ve created and participate in. Without you, Flickr would be a very white site with little colour. You are the heart of the Flickrverse. Happy Birthday!”

Flickr’s 6th anniversary will be celebrated with a big birthday party which will be held in San Francisco. We just don’t know when. “We’ll be hosting a birthday party here in San Francisco within the coming months,” said the Flickr team.

In related news, Yahoo!, who owns Flickr, announced that you need to need to use a modern browser if you want to make the most of its services. More precisely, Yahoo! said that you need to leave IE6 behind – switch to IE8, Chrome 4.0, Firefox 3.6, Safari 3.0 or any other modern browser – if you want to make the most of Yahoo! Mail.

“Believe it or not, it’s been almost 10 years since Internet Explorer 6 was released, and 26% of Internet users are still using it. If you are still using an older browser, we will be encouraging you to upgrade to the latest version soon. We even have the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox that give you an optimized, one-click access to Yahoo! Mail,” explained Program Manager with Yahoo! Mail, Andrew Molyneux.
