Gmail's Priority Inbox Scares Chrome Users
Remember the Priority Inbox feature that Google rolled out a few days ago as a means to prevent email overload and help you better sort through your inbox? When the feature was rolled out I took it for a spin in my browser of choice, Mozilla’s Firefox.

Turns out that if you used Google's own Chrome browser something like this happened (in some cases): when you accessed your Gmail inbox using Chrome, the video showcasing the Priority Inbox feature would automatically start playing. The problem was that the video was nowhere to be seen – only the music that accompanied it could be heard in the background. That jazzy tune put the scare on many Chrome users who thought they had a virus.

“It was really freaking me out for a bit. I kept thinking, "This is seriously how horror movies start... soon a giant clown will pop out of my closet with an axe in hand and spray me with his fake boutonniere." :) It is still happening, even though I clicked on that link and paused the video. I even closed out of chrome and restarted it and it is still happening,” commented user OlswangerB on Google’s support forum.

This mishap is kind of embarrassing for Google. The new feature developed by Google for Google’s Gmail client doesn’t work well on Google’s own Chrome browser. Oh, and the video was posted on YouTube, which is also owned by Google.

Google rolled out Priority Inbox to help you easily access the important messages that make it to your inbox. Priority Inbox works by splitting your inbox in three sections:
  • Important and unread – this is the important email that you need to take a look at.
  • Starred – not so important stuff that you will like to read at a later time.
  • Everything else – the rest of your email, pretty much everything that is not important.

Please note that if you don’t see Priority Inbox in your Gmail account, it is because the feature is being rolled out gradually. You should see it in the top right hand corner, right next to your username.
