Gmail for iPhone and Android Update: Extensive Language Support
We haven’t covered Gmail for iPhone and Android-powered smartphones, the browser-based Gmail for mobile client, for quite a while. But today we have very good reason to focus on the web app that gives Android and iPhone users seamless access to their Gmail inbox. The reason I am talking about is the fact that Gmail for Android and iPhone no longer provides support for just one language.
In the past the Gmail web app provided support for just one language and that language was, you’ve guessed it, English. The app now provides support for a grand total of 44 languages, thus catering to the needs of an international userbase – because, you know, not everyone in the world speaks English.

The languages the Gmail web app for Android and iPhone provides support for are as follows: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK and US), Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian (Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (Spain and South America), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
“If your phone’s default language is one of those listed, go to gmail.com in your phone’s browser and the new interface will appear in your language automatically,” explained Product Manager, Scott Eblen.
To check out the Gmail for Android and iPhone web app, you need fire up your mobile device’s browser and head over to gmail.com. The HTML5-powered app works with iPhones running iOS 2.2.1 and above, and all versions of Android.
For extra convenience, iPhone users can add a Gmail home screen link by following these steps: - Fire up the browser and go to Gmail. Sign in and then proceed to the next step. - Menu -> More -> Bookmark page -> OK - Home -> Menu -> Add shortcut-> Bookmark -> find and select Gmail - You should now see a Gmail icon on your home screen.
