Google Buzz a Big Success
The Mountain View-based search engine giant Google announced the release of its new social networking service just a couple of days ago. Integrated with your Gmail inbox, Google Buzz allows you to share photos, videos, links, status updates and other data with your friends.

“Like Gmail's chat service, Buzz helps you create a social network by automatically setting you up to follow the people you email and chat with most. You can change, delete or add any contacts you want to follow,” commented Product Manager with Gmail and Google Buzz, Todd Jackson.

Two days after the release of Google Buzz, the Buzz team now proudly announced the new service’s success. Turns out that tens of millions of people took a look at Google Buzz – makes sense, since it was one of the hottest topics on Twitter these days. All the Google Buzz users created more than 9 million posts and comments. Google Buzz was a hit with one mobile devices as well, with more than 200 posts per minute from mobile phones.

“We designed Buzz to make it easy to connect with others and have conversations about things that interest you, and it's great to see millions of you doing this already,” commented Todd Jackson. “It's still early, and we have a long list of improvements on the way. We look forward to hearing more suggestions and will continue to improve the Buzz experience with user transparency and control top of mind.”

Okay, so Google Buzz is quite popular. But what if you couldn’t care less about social networking and Google Buzz? Google rolled out the service to all Gmail users, the Google Buzz icon is just sitting there annoying the heck out of you. There is something you can do. You can turn off Google Buzz. Scroll down to the bottom of the page (your Gmail inbox) and click the “turn off buzz” link. The Google Buzz icon will then disappear.

That’s all you have to do, assuming of course you did not play around with Buzz, created a Google profile, started following people and so on. If you did that, you’ll have to remove your connected sites, delete your profile and block all followers. A detailed article on this topic and more is available on Google’s Help Center here.
