Google Calendar Updates Its Looks as Well
Google Calendar, the free time-management web application provided by Mountain View-based search engine giant Google, has updated its looks – just like YouTube and Google Search have not too long ago. According to the development team behind Google Calendar, the application’s looks were getting a bit outdated.

“When I came to Google four years ago, a small group of engineers was putting the finishing touches on a calendar application. A few of us started using it, and I remember thinking, "Wow! It's so fresh and shiny and new!" But over time the shiny new Calendar started to feel a little bit old, a little out of step with other Google Apps. So we rolled up our sleeves and we tweaked the layout, we twiddled the colors and we tuned the text,” explained User Experience Designer with Google, Joe Ashear.

If you care to see how the new design looks, take a glance at the image way down at the bottom of this article. Or you can head straight to the official Google Calendar site here.

Besides looking better, the new Google Calendar is more consistent with other Google apps. You can expect Google Calendar to work in the same manner it did in the past. Only one thing has changed: the Tasks link has been removed. You can turn Tasks on and off by clicking the Tasks calendar in your calendar list.

The Google owned popular video sharing site YouTube has recently updated its looks as well. Here’s what’s new:
- The search results page’s looks have been refreshed.
- The upload interface looks differently. According to the YouTube team, the interface has been redesigned to “streamline the look and functionality of the upload page.”
- The video player has a new design.
- Two new options have been added to the share options. When you click the “Share” button you’ll see the options to share via Blogger or Google Buzz.

Google Search (Google.com) has updated its looks as well. In the new, redesigned user interface, you can see a side panel in the left-hand side of the screen. From said side panel you can filter your search results and categorize results. The left side panel is powered by Universal Search, the Search Options panel and Google Squared. Universal Search brings the most relevant search results to you. The Search Options panel, which was released last year in spring, helps you filter your search. Last but not least, Google Squared helps you find “entities” that are related to your search, allowing you to explore related topics.
