Mountain View-based search engine giant Google launched an extension for its speedy Chrome web browser. Extensions are small applications that are meant to enhance the browser’s functionality and generally make your life easier. Called Chrome to Phone, this newly released extension sends the current web page, map, YouTube video, or selected phone number or text from your Chrome browser to your Android-powered device.
“Ever wanted a way to quickly and easily send links and other information from your desktop or laptop to your phone to view on the go? The new Chrome to Phone extension adds a button to your Google Chrome browser that instantly sends the current web page, map, YouTube video, or selected phone number or text to your Android device running Froyo (or Android 2.2). To get Chrome to Phone, install the extension in your Google Chrome browser and the Android application on your phone from Android Market, and you’re ready to go,” announced Engineering Manager, Dave Burke.

Let’s say you’re watching an interesting YouTube video and you suddenly realize that you forgot you had to be somewhere. You want to rush out the door, but you also want to finish watching the video. What do you do? The answer to that question is simple: you use the newly launched Chrome to Phone extension and send that YouTube video from your Chrome browser to your Android-powered mobile device. This way you can watch the video on your mobile device, while on your way (I’m guessing you’re not driving in this scenario).
Here’s a better scenario that showcases the functionality of this application, scenario provided by Dave Burke. "Say you’ve looked up an address or driving directions on your desktop. Clicking the extension icon in your browser will push the information to the Google Maps app on your phone."
For the time being the Chrome to Phone application is available in English only. Google said support for additional languages will be added in the future.
