Google Picks Avast! Free Antivirus 5 for Your Security Needs
Google Pack is a selection of free software applications that you might like to install on your machine. At the time it serves software applications such as Chrome, Google Desktop, Adobe Reader, Picasa, Skype and so on. In the future Google Pack will add one new piece of software to the list, a piece of software that will address the user’s security needs. I am talking about Avast! Free Antivirus 5.

The free version of the security software solution has not been released to the public just yet. It will be released in the near future. In preparation for the release, Avast! representatives have announced that the antivirus program will become a part of Google Pack.

Avast! CEO Vincent Steckler: “As we get ready to launch our new Avast! Free Antivirus Version 5, we are proud to announce that Google has chosen this product for inclusion in Google Pack. Google Pack is a package of free software that Google assembles and distributes to its users around the world. Google Pack includes Avast for the following languages: French, German, Italian, Czech, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, and Polish. The Avast Free Antivirus included in the Google Pack is the same as our regular Avast Free Antivirus. Following the philosophy of Google and Avast, the product is fully featured and does not constantly try to up-sell users to a premium product.”

You can expect Avast! Free Antivirus Version 5 to offer protection against viruses, spyware, malicious websites, hijacked sites, infected sites, and so on. To put it bluntly, it will provide all the protection an internet user needs in this ever increasing threatscape.

It should be noticed that back in December, Avast! announced it entered a partnership with Google to help the Mountain View-based search engine giant propagate its Chrome browser. In order to do so, Avast! decided to bundle Chrome with Avast! Free Antivirus 5. The same Vincent Steckler said this at the time:

“As we get close to our launch date for our new Avast! Free Antivirus, version 5 we have an exciting new agreement with Google to announce. We will be giving our new users an option to install Google Chrome when installing Avast. We are not forcing Chrome on users. It is entirely up to the user–to download/install is entirely up to the user and nothing is hidden. Personally, I think Google Chrome is an exciting new browser."

One hand washes the other I guess. Avast bundles Chrome with its software, Google adds Avast! Free Antivirus 5 to Google Pack. This is not to say that Chrome or Avast! Free Antivirus 5 aren’t properly good software applications. Chrome has the fastest JavaScript engine out there while Avast! Free Antivirus 5 offers protection against online threats at no cost whatsoever to the user.
