Microsoft said that when last June when HP announced the HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web, the world’s first web-connected home printer, it was pretty impressed with HP’s achievements. So the Redmond-based software giant decided to join in the fun – consequently this fall Microsoft’s Bing Maps will be available on internationally distributed new HP ePrint enabled home printers.
“Bing Maps will now be available as a mapping option on select HP Photosmart e-All-in-One printer. Beginning this fall, Bing Maps will be available on new HP ePrint enabled home printers worldwide, giving you access to Bing Maps’ best in class high resolution imagery for quick and easy one touch map printing… right from a printer!” announced Senior Business Development Manager with Microsoft, Whit Crump.

In related news, earlier this month HP announced it is in the process of acquiring ArcSight, a leading security and compliance management company. The acquisition will cost HP $43.50 per ArcSight share, which amounts to a grand total of $1.5 billion. For this amount of money HP will acquire a superior technology that, HP says, is highly complementary to its existing security portfolio of hardware, software and services. As HP explained, the acquisition of ArcSight is meant to improve security, reduce risk and facilitate compliance at a lower cost for its customers.
ArcSight is the second security company that HP acquired – back in august HP announced it entered a definitive agreement to acquire Fortify Software, security software vendor known for making security analysis and assurance tools for application developers. As HP explained at the time, the acquisition of Fortify Software is meant to help HP’s clients to proactively reduce business risks of insecure software.
HP did not disclose how much it will pay to acquire Fortify Software.
