Just Like Google and Apple, Microsoft Reports Excellent Revenues
After Mountain View-based search engine giant Google made public the financial results for its Q3 (see here), and after Cupertino-based software developer Apple made public the financial results for its Q4 (see here), it is now time for Redmond-based software giant Microsoft to share the financial results for its Q1.
Microsoft announced that for Q1 (the quarter that ended on September 30) it saw a record 25% increase from the same period of last year. For Q1 2010, Microsoft’s revenues grew to a considerable $16.20 billion. To better put things in perspective, here are Microsoft’s financial results, broken down into categories:

Total revenues for Q1 – $16.20 billion, a 25% increase compared to the same period of the prior year. Operating income – $7.12 billion, a 59% increase compared to the same period of the prior year. Net income – $5.41 billion, a 51% increase compared to the same period of the prior year. Diluted earning per share – $0.62 per share, a 55% increase compared to the same period of the prior year.
“This was an exceptional quarter, combining solid enterprise growth and continued strong consumer demand for Office 2010, Windows 7, and Xbox 360 consoles and games,” said Chief Financial Officer with Microsoft, Peter Klein. “Our ability to grow revenue while continuing to control costs allowed us to deliver another quarter of year-over-year margin expansion.”
“We are seeing improved business demand and adoption. Our enterprise agreement rates were strong, reflecting business commitment to Windows 7, Office 2010, and our server and database products,” said Chief Operating Officer with Microsoft, Kevin Turner. “Customer demand and excitement for our cloud and commercial online services continue to grow as demonstrated by major new customer wins this quarter for Windows Azure and by the significant customer interest in our recently announced Office 365 service.”
In related news, on Windows 7’s first anniversary, Microsoft made public a few interesting Windows 7 adoption statistics, like the fact that more than 240 million Windows 7 licenseshave been sold.
