License Code to Get Rid of Fake ICCP Foundation Scareware
Earlier this month we were reporting that a new piece of malware is making the rounds online, targeting BitTorrent users and trying to scam them out of some money. The user is presented with a message that claims to be from a made-up anti-piracy organization called the ICCP Foundation and is asked to pay $400 for avoiding piracy charges.

To get rid of this malware you could do as F-Secure’s Mikko Hypponen said and use an antivirus program that can detect and remove it. Or you cold do something else – something quite ironic. You cold pirate the malware that accused you of piracy.

“What would be the best, and most effective way to get rid of the ransomware once and for all, excluding the use of freeware tools that detect and remove it? It’s by using the universal unlocking code/licensing code required in the “Enter a previously purchased license code” window - in this case that’s RFHM2-TPX47-YD6RT-H4KDM,” explained ZDNet’s Dancho Danchev.

The ICCP Foundation scam showed up on the malware scanner earlier this month. Once it makde its way onto the user’s computer, the malware displayed a warning that claimed to be from Switzerland-based pro-copyright organization the ICCP Foundation (there is no such foundation, it is all make believe). In the warning, the malware displayed actual files that the user downloaded from torrent sites – and it said that unless the user pays a fine of about $400, he risks getting a $250,000 fine and a 5 year sentence should the matter be taken to court. Even if the user didn’t have any files downloaded from torrent sites stored on his computer, the malware tries made this claim anyway.

The domain of the phony ICCP foundation is now down – there are still some users that remain infected. So if you are infected and do not want to use an antivirus application to detect and remove the malware use the license key above to “activate” the malware, then remove it.
