Linux Mint LXDE 10 Final Is Out
Back in February we were reporting that the Linux Mint team rolled out the Release Candidate (RC) of Linux Mint 10 LXDE. Today we have to report that the RC is old news, so you can forget about it. Why you ask? Because yesterday, Lead Linux Mint Developer Clem Lefebvre announced that the final version of Linux Mint has been released.

“The team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 10 LXDE,” said Lefebvre. “To upgrade from Linux Mint 10 LXDE RC, simply apply any level 1 and 2 updates (if any) available in the Update Manager. We look forward to receiving your feedback. Thank you for using Linux Mint and have a lot of fun with this new release!”

If you’re already using the RC, apply the level 1 and 2 updates if there are any and you can say that you have the final version of Linux Mint 10 LXDE. If you have been waiting for the final version of Linux Mint 10 LXDE to be released and did not get the RC, you can download the operating system straight from Linux Mint here.

Here are the new bits and pieces you can expect to get from Linux Mint 10 LXDE:

Software Manager
The Software Manager uses application icons and better organizes items to offer you a nicer browsing experience.

Update Manager
You can right click a package and tell the Update Manager to ignore updates for that package.
You can view the size of your selected updates in the Update Manager.

Upload Manager
Several improvements have been made to the Upload Manager: the system tray icon is launched automatically at startup if services are defined; the File Uploader merged with the Upload Manager; a connection can be tested while defining it by pressing the appropriately named Check connection button; uploads can run in the background; uploads can be cancelled; the upload dialogs are more Firefox-like visually, they measure the upload speed and calculate an ETA.

System improvements
Linux Mint 10 LXDE comes with the latest Adobe Flash “Square”
The team introduced a new metapackage called "virtualbox-nonfree" that points to the non-open-source version of VirtualBox and provides USB support.
Using unsigned repositories no longer issues a warning but a validation question.
faster and more reliable "highlight" command.
The mintsystem adjustment system is now LSB compliant.
