Microsoft Presents: Top 7 Reasons to Try Office 2010
The big news this week is that Redmond-based software giant Microsoft rolled out the final, stable version of Office 2010 to the public. The productivity suite is now available at a worldwide level. You can get a demo or purchase a copy here; you can upgrade from Office 2007 to Office 2010 here, if you purchased a qualifying version from an authorized reseller.

But wait, why would you want to upgrade to Office 2010? Why would you want to get the latest version of Office 2010? Microsoft has been kind enough to come up with a top – Top 7 Reasons to Try Office 2010. Here are those reasons:

1. Outlook Social Connector

I remember this from when it was in Beta and worked with Office 2010 Beta. As I recall, Outlook Social Connector brings social networking info into Outlook. Now that Office 2010 is available as a final product, so is the Outlook Social Connector.

2. Linked Notes in OneNote

OneNote is great because it puts text, video, audio and other content in a single location. OneNote 2010 can be docked to the side of the screen.

3. Sparklines in Excel

Excell 2010 comes with a new feature called Sparklines. Sparklines are charts that fit into a single cell to show a trend at-a-glance. According to Microsoft, 83% of Office 2010 Beta testers (just to put things in perspective, the Beta was downloaded more than 9 million times) said Sparklines makes it easier to visualize and gain insight from data.

4. Photo editing in Word

The fact that you can include photos into a Word document is not exactly new. The fact that Word 2010 comes with built-in photo editing functionality is new.

5. Video and broadcast capabilities in PowerPoint
To come up with a truly interesting presentation, PowerPoint 2010 lets you embed video directly into that presentation. Furthermore, PowerPoint 2010 comes with a broadcast feature – thanks to it you can “present a slideshow with dynamic transitions and animations to an audience of one or 100, clear across the other side of the world.”

6. Office Web Apps

Office Web Apps are basically the equivalent of Google Docs. A document you create at the office with Office 2010 can be saved to Windows Live SkyDrive. When you are out of the office you can view and edit those documents with Webb Apps.

7. A Ribbon you can personalize
The Ribbon UI in Office 2010 has been improved – but that isn’t the best part about it. The Ribbon can be customized as you see fit.
