Mozilla's Game On 2010 Competition Kicks Off
As you may remember, early this September the Mozilla Foundation announced the launch of a new initiative called Mozilla Labs Gaming, an initiative that focuses on games developed, delivered and played on the Open Web and the browser. As Mozilla explained at the time, the initiative will focus on Open Web Technologies such as Open Video, audio, WebGL, touch events, device orientation, geo location, and any other free, open-source tool that works across platforms and modern web browsers.

You may also remember that to kick off the Mozilla Labs Gaming Initiative, Mozilla announced the Game On 2010 competition, an international competition open to developers from all over the world who want to create complex and not so complex games with Open Web technologies.

Early September the Game On 2010 site was up and running, but the contest did not kick off – at the time Mozilla explained the competition would kick off by the end of the month. And that is precisely what happened: the Game On 2010 competition kicked off last Thursday, the 30th of September. The Game On 2010 Competition will run until January 11th, 2011, and there will be mini-competitions, events and other surprises in between.

“At the end of the competition a panel consisting of some amazing people in the Web and gaming worlds will vote together with the wider community on the best games (overall and in different categories),” commented Director of Mozilla Labs Pascal Finette. “We have a bunch of great prizes and will fly out the overall winner to next year’s Game Developer Conference and Independent Games Festival in San Francisco where we will give you the red carpet treatment including a behind-the-scenes tour of Mozilla HQ in Mountain View, California – all expenses paid.”

Here are the main Game on 2010 competition dates:
  • September 30th – the competition kicked off.
  • January 11th, 2011 – make sure to submit your game by this date.
  • January 31st, 2011 – the winners of the competition will be announced.
  • February 28th, 2011 – the winners will get to attend the Game Developer Conference, Independent Games Festival and visit Mozilla HQ.

Additional details on the Game On 2010 competition are available on the official Game On 2010 site.
