MSE Now Available Free of Charge to Small Businesses
As you may remember, a few weeks ago we reported that come October, Microsoft would make Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) available free of charge to small businesses. This September Microsoft announced that it would make its security software solution available free of charge so that it can protect up to 10 PCs in a small business environment.

Until now we did not know when MSE would be changing its licensing terms and would become available to small business. All we knew was that this would happen sometime this October. Now we do know – the day when MSE becomes available for small business is, well, yesterday. Yep, as of October 7, 2010, MSE is available to small business on up to 10 PCS.

“Small-business owners just want to concentrate on running the business, without worrying about PCs going down,” commented Director of Marketing for Microsoft Security Essentials, Jeff Smith. “We talk to lots of small-business customers every day, and we understand that security is a top priority. When we launched Microsoft Security Essentials last year, small businesses kept telling us that it was exactly the type of thing they need at work too. What they really wanted from their antivirus software — inexpensive, quiet protection from a provider they can trust — were all things Microsoft Security Essentials could clearly deliver.”

If you’re anxious to get Microsoft Security Essentials, just click here. MSE is available in 74 markets worldwide and 25 languages.

If you need to protect more than 10 computers, Microsoft advises you to check out the Forefront line of products.

In related news, MSE recently celebrated its fist anniversary. The first MSE Beta version, as you may recall, was released back in June 2009. The application graduated out of Beta on the 29th of September, 2009. In honor of MSE's first anniversary Redmon-based software giant Microsoft released a few interesting statistics – like the fact that MSE has been installed on more than 31 million machines or the fact that MSE detected nearly 400 million threats in its first year.
