The internet is great because it allows us to stay connected and gives us access to all sorts of information. The internet is not so great because it is host to all sorts of security threats, like worms, Trojans, viruses, and people with malicious intent who want to scam you. To keep his system safe and protected, the user must use a security software solution to keep security threats at bay.
Redmond-based software giant Microsoft offers such a security software solution for free – that solution is called Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Proof that MSE is a good choice came this August when Virus Bulletin (highly reputable testing organization in the industry whose goal is to measure the detection effectiveness and quality of antivirus products) gave MSE a VB100 award and then again when AV-TEST (an independent antivirus research and data security organization) said that MSE passed its test at received an AV-Test certificate .

MSE has been around since 2009 (the first Beta was launched June, 2009) and it has been offering free, properly good protection to individual home users. Come October 2010, Microsoft Security Essentials will also offer protection to small businesses, Microsoft announced. As Microsoft explained, the small business owner’s main focus falls on running the business, reducing costs, and improving productivity. They do not have the time or a dedicated team needed to manage a complicated IT infrastructure.
“Microsoft is making its Microsoft Security Essentials available to small businesses on up to 10 PCs for FREE, beginning in early October! By providing Microsoft Security Essentials to small businesses free of charge, Microsoft extends its commitment to help these companies save money and grow their business by offering no-cost protection from viruses, spyware and other malicious threats,” announced Eric Ligman, Global Partner Experience Lead, Microsoft Worldwide Partner Group.
MSE provides good protection and does not cost a thing.
