National Internet Safety Month and YouTube
In the good old US of A, the entire month of June is National Internet Safety Month. During this month US citizens are provided with the opportunity to learn more about the dangers of the internet and what they could do stay safe and secure online. During this month awareness on the dangers of the internet is promoted.

Out of all the online domains out there, YouTube is by far one of the most popular ones. On a daily basis, millions of people view videos on YouTube, upload videos to YouTube, and comment on videos posted on YouTube. The YouTube community is truly huge. As Policy & Communications Associate with YouTube, Mandy Albanese said, most of the people in the community have only good intentions in mind – a few on the other hand, do not have good intentions in mind.

In honor of Internet Safety Month, YouTube would like to ensure users stay safe and protected. So YouTube is spotlighting videos that focus on staying safe online.

“This month, we’re celebrating the 3rd Annual Internet Safety Month by spotlighting videos that educate families on how to stay safe online. From making smart decisions about posting personal information, to dealing with rude comments and cyberbullies, these straightforward tips will enable you to have the best possible experience on YouTube and across the Web. Be sure to check them out,” commented Mandy Albanese.

Furthermore YouTube would like to draw attention to the tools it offers, tools that help you stay safe on the popular video sharing site. Here’s a quick presentation of these tools:
  • Safety Mode – Thanks to Safety Mode, users can filter out objectionable content they do not want to see. On top of that Safety Mode lets users who have children protect their young ones from content that is not suitable for their tender age and fragile minds.
  • Unlisted videos – Thanks to this new feature, you can post a video to YouTube, then take the link of the video and share it with your friends and family. Only they will be able to view the video on popular video-sharing site YouTube because they have the direct link to the video.
  • Help & Safety Tool – Via this tool you can report privacy violations, block users and report harassment and bullying anonymously.
  • Flagging – When you find something that violates YouTube’s Community Guidelines, simply click the flag icon underneath the video player. Tell the YouTube team which policies are violated and the team will review your comment.
