Opera Mini for Samsung Galaxy S Android-powered Smartphones
Great news for Opera Mini fans who have an Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S mobile device. Opera Software, the Norwegian software developer known for its homonymous web browser, has today announced that Opera Mini, its lightweight web browser, is available on the Samsung Galaxy S, the latest Android-platform smartphone from Samsung Electronics.

Existing Samsung Galaxy S users can get Opera Mini right now by downloading the browser on their mobile devices. To do so they need only fire up their phone’s browser and head to m.opera.com. Once on the site, Opera will automatically select the public version for their phones.

Future Samsung Galaxy S users will not have to download anything. That’s because Opera Mini will be preloaded onto the mobile devices. As Opera Software explained, its Opera Mini browser will initially be preloaded in select markets only; in the future the browser will be preloaded on devices sold at an international level.

“We are very glad to provide the best mobile Internet experience to Samsung’s Galaxy S users and Opera fans in selected markets,” commented Chief Executive Officer of Opera Software, Lars Boilesen. “We also hope that global fans can get the chance in the near future.”

Don’t like Opera Mini, the browser that can redirect traffic through Opera servers and compress data by up to 90% and thus provide faster browsing speeds, especially on slow or congested networks? Then you can get another Opera-developed web browser. You can get Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android, which was rolled out this November.

Now you’re conflicted and don’t know which one to choose. You’re probably thinking something along the lines “should I get Mini, should I get Mobile…which one should I get?” Luckily for you I have put together a nice article that explains the differences between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile – you can check it out here.

Here’s the gist of it, should you decide that reading an entire article is too much of a bother. Opera Mobile installs the browser engine on your device, while Opera Mini doesn’t (its engine is on an Opera server). Opera Mini is smaller and moves faster, but Opera Mobile renders pages better. Opera Mobile acts and feels more like your regular desktop browser, but cannot be installed on as many devices as Opera Mini, which can be installed on less powerful handsets because it is a Java-based proxy browser that delivers web pages via Opera's servers.
