Opera Software Debuts Office in Russia
Opera Software, the Norwegian company we all know for making the Opera browser, has plenty of supporters in Russia. For that reason Opera Software has decided to make a home for itself in St. Petersburg. Today, the 14th of April, the company established an office in St. Petersburg. The office is located on Primorsky prospect, 54/A/1, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The Russian community of Opera users is the largest in the world. The St. Petersburg office in Russia will provide additional support to local Opera users, web developers, Opera partners and customers. The office will be responsible for all Opera activities in Russia.

Just to put things in perspective, in Russia, Opera takes more than 31.7% of the market share, according to StatCounter, March 2010. And that’s on the desktop side – on the mobile side, Opera takes about 82% of the Russian mobile web-surfing market.

Opera’s presence in Russia was felt before the St. Petersburg office was set up. The company participated in major industry evens like conferences, forums and barcamps. On top of that, Opera set up regular University tours, during which it educated teachers, students and developers on the benefits of open Web standards.

“Russia is a priority region for Opera, and we have already garnered incredible support and recognition of the Opera browser in this country. By immersing ourselves in the Russian community with a local presence, we are able to better respond to the needs of our Russian consumers,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “With this new office in St. Petersburg, we are proving our dedication to our Russian users and letting them know that we’re not going anywhere. I hope that through this effort, we reach a better understanding of what Russian users, Web developers and partners want and need from Opera.”
