Palm WebOS: The Versatility of the Option Key
About a month ago we focused on the WebOS operating system and what you can do with the spacebar – the hidden powers of the spacebar that you may not be aware of. We shift focus on the WebOS once more, but this time we will focus on the versatility provided by the Option key.

According to Paul Araquistain, Palm PR, nothing on “Palm webOS phone’s keyboard beats the Option key. You press it to enter the numbers, punctuation, and symbols that appear above the letters on the keys, but this multipurpose button has other tricks up its sleeve.” Let’s see what those tricks are, shall we?

To capture whatever is displayed on the screen, you need only press and hold Option + Sym + P. To see what you captured you need to open the PNG file stored in the “screen captures” folder in the Photos app. You can then share or upload the image if you want to.

Speaking of sharing images, did you know that you can easily share the link of an online photo by using the Option key? Simply press and hold Option, then tap the photo, copy the URL, then share the image. Alternatively you can copy it to the Photos app.

Did I mention the fact that you have to copy something? This reminds me that the Options button comes in handy when you need to do this. First you have to hold Option and drag your finger on the screen to place the cursor where you want it; then you have to press and hold Shift and drag your finger over the text you want to copy.

The Option button also comes in handy when you need to perform a quick reboot. Simply press Option + Sym + R and your WebOS powered device will reboot. Be careful not to press Option + Sym + Power as this will do a full erase.

Last but not least, you can use the Option key to switch to USB Drive mode after you attacjs the device to your computer. So, after you’ve connected your phone to your computer, press and hold Option + Sym + U to switch to USB Drive mode.
