PGP and GuardianEdge Integration Is Complete, Symantec Announces
As you may remember, back in the spring of 2010 Symantec, company that specializes in providing antivirus, antispyware, and internet security software solutions, announced it plans to enter the encryption market. The way it chose to do so is by spending $370 million to acquire two companies that provide encryption technology, mainly PGP (for which it paid $300 million) and GuardianEdge Technologies (for which it paid $70 million).

In the summer of 2010, Symantec announced that the acquisition of PGP and GuardianEdge went through without a hitch. At the time Symantec explained that what it wants to achieve with the acquisition of PGP and GuardianEdge Technologies is to be able to provide the broadest set of integrated data protection solutions. All major customer segments, from individuals and small businesses to large enterprises and governments, will find in Symantec all the tools they need to stay safe and protected.

This week, yesterday, the 7th of February to be more precise, Symantec announced that the integration of PGP and GuardianEdge into its Partner Program is complete. On the occasion Symantec introduced Encryption Solutions Specialization. In a press release Symantec says Encryption Solutions Specialization “provides Symantec partners with a demonstrated expertise in Symantec Encryption solutions with unique benefits designed to help increase their competitive advantage, improve recognition by customers, and drive more revenue.”

“Security threats have become more sophisticated, requiring a shift from protecting infrastructure to protecting information,” explained Randy Cochran, vice president, North America Channel Sales, Symantec. “Developing an encryption strategy is a top concern for business of all sizes and our partners are focused on helping customers keep their data safe from accidental loss and theft. The Encryption Solutions Specialization recognizes partners who have demonstrated an expertise in our encryption solutions and is key to providing Symantec partners with tools and resources to help them meet their customers’ needs and differentiate their businesses.”
