PureTNA Permanently Shut Down for Reasons Unknown
Bad news for the torrent community, for users who like to watch adult material in particular – it seems that PureTNA has been permanently shut down. Alongside PureTNA, a giant in the BitTorrent community with more than 1.3million users, Empornium has been shut down (permanently) as well.

Back in 2005 the admin of PureTNA announced the site would be closed for personal reasons, but much to the delight of the numerous users, the site did not go down then. The site was kept alive – only to be permanently shut down about 5 years later. Representatives of PureTNA (and Empornium) have confirmed that the sites have been taken “permanently offline”.

TorrentFreak
, site that specializes in everything torrent-related, tried to obtain a comment from PureTNA and Empornium representatives, a comment on why the sites have both been shut down. It is uncommon for two sites that have so many users to just shut down. According to TorrentFreak, PureTNA was serving 67,000 torrents to more than 630,000 peers while Empornium was serving 82,000 torrent to 660,000 peers.

Unfortunately TorrentFreak was unable to get a comment from PureTNA and Empornium representatives; they simply declined. The site was able to get a comment from Breeze, who manages PureTNA and Empornium. Breeze’s comment was: “Such is BitTorrent life.”

According to TorrentFreak, two rumors are making the rounds online. The first one is that both sites were vulnerable to malware attacks due to a lack of investment in code development. One or both sites are rumored to have been hacked recently. Rather than invest money in the sites, after the hack, the site owners decided to wipe their hard drives clean in order to protect the users’ privacy.

The second rumor is that the site owners were pressured into shutting down the sites. Under the threat of legal action, the site owners decided to shut down the sites.
