RandPass: Free Utility to Generate Strong Passwords
As security experts keep telling us, it is not a good idea to use the same password over and over again, for all your online accounts. It’s not a good idea because if one account is compromised (someone steals your password, you fall for a phishing attack, or somehow manage to have your password compromised) then all accounts are compromised.
Security experts also keep telling us not to pick an easily guessable or an overly simple password. Do not pick your name, your birth date, or a dictionary word as your password because someone with malicious intent could easily break that password.

What you have to do is come up with a strong password that contains letters and numbers. Not a single password – different passwords for all your accounts. You could do this on your own, or you could turn to software and let it lend you a helping hand.
An application that can help you come up with strong password is the Denis Kozlov-developed RandPass – short for Random Password I guess. Offered free of charge, this application can come up with multiple passwords at once. From RandPass’s interface you choose the length of the password(s) you want to create, the number of passwords you want to create, select if you want to use letters, uppercase letters, digits, custom characters, and even a custom format. Once you’re done making your selection, simply click the big “Generate Passwords” button and the app will quickly generate passwords for you.
The RandPass download weighs in at less than 1MB, which means that no matter how lousy your internet connection is, the download will complete in no time at all. Once the download completes, simply unzip the archive and run the RandPass executable. You do not have to install anything – which also means you can stick RandPass on a USB drive and take it with you. At the time of writing this and according to the developer RandPass works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.
So let’s recap: lightweight download, no installation (portable), freeware, generates passwords easily and rapidly. And it works with Windows 7. What more could you want?
