The other day Skype made the headlines because it decided to give free Skype Access from 00:01 GMT on the 8th of November 2010 until 23:59 GMT on the 12th of November 2010 in honor of the first ever Internet Week Europe, a 5-day festival that focuses on celebrating internet organizations and culture, a festival that celebrates Europe’s thriving internet industry and community. Today Skype once again makes the headlines, this time because it released Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac. As you may remember, Skype 5.0 for Windows graduated out of Beta on the 14th of October, bringing with it Facebook integration, group calling, and a refreshed user interface. At the time Skype said it would roll out an update for Skype for Mac as well. That update is Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac.

Search chat content – this feature lets you navigate past conversations.
Offline IM – you can send messages to offline recipients, and you can receive instant messages even if you are offline.
Personalize contacts – you can personalize your contacts via user profiles.
Dropped calls – you can quickly rejoin calls if your internet connection goes down for a moment.
Floating Contacts Monitor – display online contacts and contact groups.
“Try out the new Skype for Mac in beta and tell us what you think using the Skype > Provide Skype Feedback menu item. And stay posted as we roll out the official version soon,” added Krishna Panicker.
