Skype Coming to Numerous Verizon Wireless Phones This March
According to Skype – the company behind the hugely popular IM (instant messaging) and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) application with the same name – the largest and most reliable mobile network in the US is Verizon Wireless. It only comes natural that the two companies would enter an agreement that would put Skype on numerous Verizon Wireless phones, come March.

Starting this March, users will be able to use Skype on numerous Verizon Wireless Phones. Here are some models just to get your taste buds going: BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition and Tour 9630, DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS by HTC, and Motorola DEVOUR.

“I know that many of you have been waiting for these apps, particularly those for BlackBerry and Android, and it’s great that we’re now able to offer them to people across the US,” commented Skype’s Peter Parkes. According to Parkes, Skype on Verizon Wireless phones will provide the following functionality:
  • - make and receive unlimited free Skype-to-Skype voice calls to anyone on Skype around the globe
  • - call international phone numbers at our low rates
  • - send and receive instant messages to other Skype users
  • - see your friends’ online status

In the meanwhile, we’re still waiting for Skype to let it’s iPhone app make VoIP calls over 3G. When Apple was still blocking the option to call over 3G, Skype boasted the fact that they have an app up their sleeves. When Apple decided to drop the restriction to call over 3G, Skype said they’ll add the functionality “soon”. A version of Skype for iPhone which supports 3G calling would be released only after the app can “give you the very best audio quality,” said Skype at the time.

Speaking of things that will happen this March, you should know that that Pwn2Own competition has been scheduled for the 24th. This marks the 4th Pwn2Own competition and to celebrate the total cash prize amount has been upped to $100,000. For each successfully exploiter browser target, contestants can win $10,000. For each successfully exploited mobile target, contestants can win $15,000.
