Skype Not Interested in Windows Phone 7 OS
Earlier this spring Skype announced that it is puling Skype for Windows Mobile-powered mobile devices. And truly so, since Windows Mobile is a thing of the past – it will be replaced with Windows Phone 7 OS pretty soon. Some of you may be hoping that Skype will release Skype for Windows Phone 7 OS once it is out. Sadly though, the company will not – probably.

Asia Pacific Vice President with Skype, Dan Neary, said that Skype is not interested in developing an application for mobile devices powered by Windows Phone 7 OS. Skype did not dismiss or back Neary’s statement. The company simply said that it is rigorously exploring new platforms and that for now, nothing is set in stone.

Well, at least we know Skype is committed to the continuous development of Skype for Windows.

Recently Skype rolled out a Beta version of Skype 5.0 for Windows – the current stable version is Skype 4.2. The interesting thing about this Beta version is that it comes with support for group video calling. With Skype 5.0 for Windows, up to 5 people can talk to each other at the same time – that’s you and four of your friends.

The Beta can be downloaded free of charge here. If you plan to use the Beta, please note that he application may work poorly, it may not work at all, it may have bugs, it may drive you up the walls. You know, the regular Beta warnings. Also note that the person you’re calling needs to have the Beta version as well. To start a group call, click the “Add” button to invite people to the conversation, then click the “Video Call” button.

Beta testers are invited to provide their feedback on Skype 5.0 for Windows via Skype’s dedicated feedback survey, via popular micro-blogging site Twitter, or via Skype’s blog.
