The Beatles: 450K Albums, 2 Million Songs Sold via iTunes
The Beatles have once again proven the fact that they are one of the best known, best loved, best selling bands in history. As you may remember, earlier this month, Apple announced that it added all 13 Beatles studio albums to iTunes. Apple CEO Steve Jobs, EMI CEO Roger Faxon, Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Yoko Ono Lennon, all said they were excited iTunes finally caters to The Beatles fans.
“We’re really excited to bring the Beatles’ music to iTunes,” said Sir Paul McCartney. “It’s fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around.”

“I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when the Beatles are coming to iTunes,” said Ringo Starr. “At last, if you want it—you can get it now—The Beatles from Liverpool to now! Peace and Love, Ringo.”
How do you think The Beatles sales have done since then? More than 2 million individual songs and more than 450,000 albums were sold via iTunes since the band’s catalog was made available via Apple’s iTunes music store on the 16th of November. That’s 2 million individual downloads in about 1 week.
Single songs go for $1.29 each, single albums go for $12.99 each, and double albums go for $19.99 each. There’s also a special digital “Beatles Box Set” that contains all 13 remastered studio albums with iTunes LPs and all mini-documentaries, “Past Masters,” and the “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964” concert film. This one goes for $149.
This all adds to The Beatles’ overall sales. Since the 1960s the band has sold more than 600 million records, tapes and CDs. The Beatles 1, a compilation album released back in 2000, sold more than 31 million copies – it is the best selling CD of the decade worldwide.
