The Codename of Linux Mint 11 Is...
As I’m sure you already know, the Linux Mint team gives each version of the operating system a different name. the current stable version of the Linux Mint operating system is Linux Mint 10, which was released as a final, stable version back in November. Linux Mint 10’s codename is Julia, as in Gens Julia, one of Ancient Rome’s most ancient Patrician families and the gens of the famous Gaius Julius Caesar.

Before Linux Mint 10 there were Linux Mint 9 codename Isadora (word of Greco-Latin origin that means “gift of Isis”), Linux Mint 8 codename Helena, Linux Mint 7 codename Gloria, and Linux Mint 6 codename Felicia. But enough about the past, let’s look to the future and to be more precise, to the next Linux Mint edition, Linux Mint 11.

Lead Linux Mint developer Clem Lefebvre announced yesterday that the codename of the upcoming Linux Mint 11 will be Katya, a word of Russian origin associated with the meaning “pure”. Lefebvre saidLinux Mint 11 'Katya' will be released this May and will be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 11.04 'Natty Narwhal'.

In related Linux Mint news, the same Clem Lefebvre announced that Linux Mint signed a partnership with UK hosting company eUKhost. This means that eUKhost now sponsors Linux Mint by offering a powerful dedicated server for $894/month.

“The server is located in Milton Keynes, UK,” announced Lefebvre. “It runs Debian Lenny in 64-bit with 2 Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5620 processors (8 CPU cores), 16GB RAM, RAID 10 with 4×300GB 15K SAS hard drives and a bandwidth of 10TB/month. We moved the forums over the week-end, which were previously hosted in the USA on a costly 4GB RAM Rackspace cloud server. They’re faster than before and the migration is saving money for the distribution. We’re planning to migrate the Community Website next, which is currently hosted in Canada, and possibly the main Website, hosted in Germany. These migrations should improve the response time and performance of our websites while freeing servers for development and testing.”
