The Software Google Nexus S will Come Bundled With
The Nexus One may not have been a great commercial success, but that did not stop Google from teaming up with Samsung to come up with another Nexus phone. The Mountain View-based search engine giant has recently announced that come the 16th of December, the Nexus S Android-powered device will become available for purchase in Best Buy Stores across the US. Come December 20th, the phone will become available for purchase at Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK.

What will the Nexus S smartphone have to offer? From a hardware point of view, the smartphone comes with a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, 512 MB RAM, 16GB storage, a dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), a 5 megapixel camera with HD camcorder, curved 4-inch Super AMOLED display, accelerometer, digital compass, proximity sensor, light sensor, flash, and a few other bits and pieces.

From a software point of view, Nexus S will come with the following bits and pieces:
  • Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' – the latest version of the Google-developed Android operating system. This is the fastest version of Android ever and the best version of Android so far.
  • Android Market – the place where you can get all sorts of apps for your Nexus S phone.
  • Google Calendar – to ensure you never forget an important event, you have a calendar at your fingertips.
  • Gmail – Google’s brilliant webmail.
  • Google Earth – the application that puts a virtual globe in the palm of your hand.
  • Google Maps with Navigation – I don’t think this one needs an explanation.
  • Google Search – Google’s powerful search engine that provides you with relevant results for your queries.
  • Google Talk – instant messaging client so that you can stay in touch with your friends,
  • Google Voice – the service that puts all your phone numbers under the umbrella of a Google Voice number. You can use Google Voice for your voicemail service (instead of your mobile carrier’s voicemail service), or to make international calls at low calling rates.
  • Voice Actions – use Voice Actions in Voice Search to call your contacts, get directions, send messages, and to perform a number of other common tasks, in addition to searching the web.
  • YouTube – Google’s online video streaming service for viewing, discovering, and sharing videos.

“We co-developed [Nexus S] with Samsung—ensuring tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform. As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus S delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates,” commented Vice President of Engineering, Andy Rubin.
