The Spotlight Falls on Fast Flip Experiment
Last autumn Google Labs announced an offering called Fast Flip, an experiment meant to be provide a new reading experience, one that blends together the best parts of classic print articles with the best parts of online media.

As Google explained at the time, Fast Flip would let the user “browse sequentially through bundles of recent news, headlines and popular topics, as well as feeds from individual top publishers.” Fast Flip would provide a personalized experience by “taking cues from selections you make to show you more content from sources, topics and journalists that you seem to like.” And let’s not forget that if you found something you like, you could share it with your friends.

The news is that Fast Flip has made an appearance on the Google News homepage. At the bottom of the Google News homepage one can see stories from Fast Flip. “Fast Flip is still in Google Labs, so we'll continue to experiment with the format. But so far we've found that the speed and visual nature of the service encourages readers to look at many articles and, for the ones that catch their interest, click through to the story publishers' websites,” explained Software Engineers with Google, Jack Hebert, Matthew Watson and Corrie Scalisi.

Google Fast Flip aggregates media from more than 90 newspapers, magazines, web outlets news wires and TV and radio broadcasters. While Fast Flip has not graduated out of Google Labs, the team feels good about all the positive feedback they received from partners and users alike. Consequently it was decided that Fast Flip be integrated in the US English version of Google News. This way Fast Flip would be exposed to more potential readers.
