Director of Mobile Business Development with Twitter, Kevin Thau, has recently announced that Twitter, the social networking and microblogging service enjoyed by some 160 million users all over the world, has been integrated in Apple’s Ping, the music-oriented social network released alongside iTunes 10 this September. Here is part of Kevin Thau’s announcement:
“Twitter users now send over 95 million Tweets a day, many of which are about the music they're listening to. Starting today Ping, iTunes' new social network for music, and Twitter are making it even easier for people to share music discoveries with their friends by putting Ping activity, song previews and links to purchase and download music from the iTunes Store right in their Tweets on Twitter.com.”

Kevin Thau explained that it will all work like this: - You can link your Ping account with your Twitter account. Once you do so you will be able to find Ping users among the people you already follow on Twitter. - Your Ping activity (posts, likes, reviews, and so on) will be tweeted to your followers on Twitter). The tweet will include playable song previews and links to purchase and download music from iTunes. - Click a tweet that you received via Ping and you will see the song or album in Twitter’s details pane. Click a tweet that contains an iTunes link and you will see the song or album in Twitter’s details pane. In the aforementioned pane you can listen to song previews from iTunes.
Back in September Apple rolled out iTunes 10. iTunes got a new icon and a new social networking feature called Ping that allows you to do the following: - Follow your favorite artists, like you do on Twitter. Check out their posts, videos, tour dates. - Create an iTunes profile and let your friends follow you. You can tell your friends what you’re listening to, what artists you follow, what concerts you plan to attend. - Follow your friends and find out what they’re listening to, what concerts they will attend, and so on. - In the Recent Activity feed you can view your friends’ posts about artists, albums, songs and concerts. - View a consolidated Top 10 list of the songs and albums your friends and the artists you follow are downloading from iTunes.
We don’t currently have any recent statistics, but we do know that in less than 48 hours after the release of iTunes 10 and the Ping social music discovery service, more than 1 million people joined Ping.
