Twitter Thursday: @anywhere Service Goes Live
Today it is all about popular micro-blogging and social networking site Twitter. All the news will focus on Twitter – this particular news article focuses on the @anywhere service announced by Twitter about a month back.

The @anywhere service, which was announced at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival back in March, is meant to embed Twitter functionality into other websites. By taking advantage of the tools provided by @anywhere, any website can for example let Twitter users follow feeds and share media without having to go to Twitter.com.

Let’s say you have a personal blog and you take advantage of the functionality provided by @anywhere. When someone visits your personal blog and places the mouse cursor over your name, a popup could appear and present the visitor with a Twitter box where said visitor can see if he’s following you on Twitter or not. The box could also allow the user to start following you, or it could allow the user to send you a tweet directly from the site.

On top of that, @anywhere could be used in a fashion similar to Facebook Connect. Twitter users could log into a website by using their Twitter login credentials.

“Last month we previewed an incredibly simple set of web tools which enable partner websites to easily integrate Twitter functionality into their site experience called @anywhere. The idea is that web users will be able to engage with existing Twitter features from all of their favorite sites. Today, we're happy to announce this service is live and ready for anyone who wants to build a little Twitter into their online experience,” announced Twitter Co-Founder, Biz Stone.

The first sites to implement @anywhere include big names such as Yahoo!, Bing, Amazon, YouTube, Meebo, and Digg.
