As part of Twitter Thursday, we are shifting all focus on popular social networking and micro-blogging site Twitter. And we are not alone – Mountain View-based search engine giant Google is focusing on Twitter as well. Google has launched a means for you to check out tweets that go back a few months.
When you perform a search using Google, the search engine giant includes tweets among the search results. This is great if you want to know what people are tweeting right now. But what if you want to see what people were tweeting a few months back? Google has rolled out a new Twitter timeline feature that lets you “replay” tweets from the past.

“Starting today, you can zoom to any point in time and “replay” what people were saying publicly about a topic on Twitter. To try it out, click “Show options” on the search results page, then select “Updates.” The first page will show you the familiar latest and greatest short-form updates from a comprehensive set of sources, but now there’s a new chart at the top. In that chart, you can select the year, month or day, or click any point to view the tweets from that specific time period,” explained Product Manager for Real-Time Search, Dylan Casey.
If you perform a search for “golden gate park” you will get something that looks like this.
For the time being you can only go back a few months – back to February 11, 2010 to be more precise. But according to Twitter and Google, in the near future you’ll be able to see even the very first tweets to be sent online. The very first tweet was created back in 2006, on the 21st of March.
While Google is focusing on the past, the Library of Congress is focusing on the future. To be more precise, the Library of Congress recently announced that it will start archiving tweets. So all-round great news for Twitter . Other articles from our Twitter Thursday coverage:
