Chile After the Chile earthquake, Twitter saw a 500% increase in signups. Since the earthquake the number of users signing up to use Twitter is continually growing. Even the President of Chile tweeted after the miners were rescued.

Russia The Russian President Medvedev has a Twitter account. After he got a Twitter account, the following day Twitter saw a 300% growth in sign-ups and a steady growth of sign-ups ever since.
South Korea Back in June a “go and vote” campaign spread online and the president’s office started using twitter to better communicate with voters. The number of Twitter accounts in South Korea has doubled since June.
