Updated Official Twitter App Provides iPad Support
The development team at Twitter has announced that the official Twitter app is now available on Apple’s iPad. The official Twitter app was rolled out back in May, following the acquisition of Tweetie. What Twitter did is bought Tweetie, brought Tweetie developer Loren Brichter (a.k.a. Atebits) on board, and built the official Twitter app on top of Tweetie. The official Twitter app was basically Tweetie 3.0.

The official Twitter app has been updated to version 3.1. This version provides support for the iPad device. “Twitter for iPad takes advantage of the iPad’s fluid touch interface, letting you move lots of information around smoothly and quickly – without needing to open and close windows or click buttons. There are a few things we want to point out that make this app a really fast and fun way to read real-time content,” commented Loren Brichter and Bryan Haggerty.

Here is what you can expect to get from the Twitter for iPad app:

Panes – when you tap on a tweet, a pane will open to the right. Swipe to the right or to the left to switch between panes. You can open as many panes as you want.

Inline media player – play a video inline when you tap a video link or open a webpage with an embedded video. While waiting for the video to load, you can browse through your open panes. When the video has finished loading, you can ping to view it in fullscreen mode.

Gestures – as mentioned above, you can pinch to view videos in full screen. You can also pinch a tweet to view details about the author or to reply or retweet. To peek at the replies a tweet got, put wo fingers together and pull down on the tweet.

Test it without logging in – the Twitter team has selected a few Twitter accounts that you can view in the app without actually having to sign in. You don’t need to log in to search, view trends, and find breaking news either. You will need to sign in if you want to start tweeting, obviously.

If you would like to get the official Twitter app for iPad, you can get it from the App Store
