uTorrent and Vuze are two of the biggest names from the BitTorrent world. They have been out there for more than a decade and together hold about three quarters of the market share – this means some 100 million users per month. But out of the two, which offers the fastest download speeds?
The answer to this question is provided by a study conducted by researcher Marios Iliofotou from the University of California and other researchers from Telefonica Research. The study looked at the download speeds of more than 10 million BitTorrent users and found that uTorrent users benefit from higher download speeds than Vuze users.

“Our measurements show that uTorrent users can achieve on average 16% faster download speed than users of Vuze. On average uTorrent users achieve 176 Kbps while the users of Vuze achieve 151 Kbps over the same torrents and ISPs,” says Marios Iliofotou in the study entitled “Comparing BitTorrent Clients in the Wild: The Case of Download Speed”.
Out of all the various BitTorrent clients out there, the most used ones are uTorrent, Vuze, Mainline, and Transmission. Out of all BitTorrent users on The Pirate Bay, 50% of them use uTorrent and 25% use Vuze.
The goal of the study was to provide an answer to two questions. The following two questions: Are the existing client implementations different in only their interface and extra functionalities? Is there one client that can achieve faster download speeds than the other?

The latest uTorrent version to be released is v. 2.0. It has the following bits and pieces to offer:
Enhanced uTP – uTorrent is better suited to regulate its bandwidth usage so that it does not impact your internet connection in a negative way. Also uTP is no longer hidden in the Advanced settings.
Setup dialog improvements – The setup dialog is now easier to use. On top of that, the setup dialog comes with a built-in speed test.
New transfer cap – To track bandwidth usage, a new transfer cap feature has been added. The feature comes with graphs, to show the user his bandwidth usage.
Improved performance – uTorrent 2.0 is faster than previous versions.
Skins – this is something that most people forget about. You can personalize uTorrent with a skin. Skins are available for download here. You have to manually add skins to uTorrent 2.0, there is not skins menu option. Also, you should know that after you downloaded and saved the skin to the uTorrent folder, you need to restart uTorrent for the skin to be applied.
