View PowerPoint 2010 Presentations for Free with PowerPoint Viewer
Microsoft Office 2010 went RTM (Release to Manufacturing) back in April. Next month in June the Microsoft-developed productivity suite is expected to be released to the general public and once that happens, users will be able to come up with presentations via PowerPoint 2010.

Let’s assume for a second that someone sends you a PowerPoint 2010 presentation. Viewing said presentation is not a problem if you have Office 2010 or PowerPoint 2010. Bu what if you do not have the productivity suite installed on your computer? This isn’t a problem either as long as you have another software application: PowerPoint Viewer.

With PowerPoint viewer, as the name so adequately points out, you can view PowerPoint presentations. You do not need to have Office or PowerPoint installed – simply use PowerPoint Viewer. The application can be downloaded straight from Microsoft (download link at the bottom) and can be used free of charge.

You might already be familiar with PowerPoint Viewer. What you may not know is that Redmond-based software giant Microsoft recently rolled out a new version of PowerPoint Viewer. This new version provides support for presentations created with PowerPoint 2010.

Just to put things in perspective, you can use PowerPoint Viewer to open documents created with the following:
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2010
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97

“PowerPoint Viewer lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions with full fidelity. This viewer also supports opening password-protected Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. You can view and print presentations, but you cannot edit them in the PowerPoint Viewer,” explained Microsoft.

If you would like to get PowerPoint Viewer, you can download the utility straight from Microsoft here.

Please note that PowerPoint Viewer does not support embedded online videos and is not portable.
